ICC Campaign:
Odhikar has been campaigning for the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the last few years. During the pre-1998 global campaign for the adoption of the Statute, Odhikar, along with the Bangladesh Coalition for the ICC, was at the forefront of campaign for its adoption. Currently Odhikar is actively engaged in disseminating information on the ICC in Bangladesh, organizing awareness raising workshops and seminar, lobbying meeting and publishing write-ups in the newspapers.
Bangladesh is the first South Asian country to have expressed interest in the International Criminal Court by signing the Rome Statute in 1999. Since then, civil societies have been making an effort to try to make people and concerned policymakers aware of the Rome Statute. Many campaign initiatives have taken place and Odhikar was one of the first organizations to play an active role from the very beginning of the campaign.
Odhikar prioritized its focus on the reinforcement of the BCICC. it has been decided that the Coalition will have, in addition to a Steering Committee, organizational and individual members. At the South Asia level, Odhikar is working as focal point for the ICC campaign.
